Maritime Law

Maritime Law

Maritime law, also known as admiralty law, is a specialized body of law governing ships and shipping activities, including shipping commerce, marine navigation, and the protection of maritime workers. It sets rules and standards for the construction, inspection, and operation of ships, as well as the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved in maritime commerce. Maritime law is distinct from other areas of law, such as commercial or contract law, and is governed by international treaties, as well as national and regional laws.

The firm handles multiple aspects related to maritime law, including but not limited to: personal injury claims under the Jones Act, DOHSA, and General Maritime Law; Maintenance and Cure claims; cargo claims arising out of the carriage of goods by sea or intermodal transportation; vessel collisions, arrests and enforcement of maritime liens, and interpretation of marine insurance policies.
